Prescriptions
Getting a Prescription
We accept prescriptions from any qualified optometrist within the last 2 years (12 months of you are over 70 years of age). We recommend ensuring your optometrist includes your Pupillary Distance (PD) measurement on your prescription (if you can't get ahold of it, don't worry, we can help!).
If you are a UK resident, you may be entitled to a free eye test if you qualify for certain need-based benefits or are over 60 years of age. Additionally, many employers are required to provide free eye tests to employees - we recommend checking with your employer if you qualify.
Please note, we do not accept contact lens prescriptions.
Sending Your Prescription
Select your lenses (prescription lenses are usually single vision or progressive!) and check out. You can upload your prescription at check-out, or select to email your prescription to us later. If you select “email later”, after check-out, our customer service team will contact you to ask for your prescription by e-mail.
Our team will then verify your prescription is valid and send you a confirmation e-mail when your glasses are dispatched. If we're unable to verify your prescription for any reason, we'll let you know why and how to fix it.
About your Pupillary Distance (PD)
Your Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance between your pupils measured in millimetres. It helps us ensure that your lenses align perfectly with your pupils.
If your optometrist hasn't included these details on your prescription, you can ask them for it.
To virtually check your PD, try our virtual PD tool. It’s free, accurate and takes under 5 minutes.
If you're still unable to get ahold of your PD, please speak with us and we can help.
Eye Voucher Schemes
Please contact our Customer Happiness team for any questions regarding what eye voucher schemes. We currently do not accept most voucher schemes, but are working on adding more in the near future!
Lenses
We cater to all lenses including single, varifocal, and non-prescription lenses.
Single vs. Varifocal Lenses
Single lenses have one prescription that covers the entirety of the lens. They are typically for people with long or short sight that need glasses for activities such as driving, reading or computer work, so you have clear vision for either near or far.
Varifocal lenses allow you to see at any distance. They're often described as "one size fits all" glasses due to the advancement of lenses used. Because of the specificity, varifocals can take some time to get used to and at first you may feel dizzy or nauseous as your brain adapts to the differing prescriptions. Don't worry, the sensation won't last.
Anti-Scratch and Blue Light Lenses
We can offer anti-scratch lenses and blue light lenses for additional cost. Simply select the add-ons you prefer before adding your pairs to check-out. The extra cost can also be inclusive in installments over the subscription plan length.
Anti-scratch lenses provide an invisible but strong barrier which keeps your glasses protected at all times. This means you can avoid light scuffing which is natural as part of day-to-day wear. This ensures you receive better quality for longer. However, while anti-scratch lenses can help with light scuffing, we always recommend handling your glasses with care and cleaning them carefully to remain in best possible condition.
Blue light filter lenses help protect eyes from digital screens. Blue light can come from the sun but can also come from digital screens and LED lights. We recommend adding blue light filtering lenses to any spectacles if you spend time in front of screens.
Light Responsive Lenses
We currently do not offer light responsive lenses, however we are hoping to offer these in the near future!
High Index Lenses
High index lenses may be required for certain prescriptions. If we believe your prescription may require high index lenses, we'll let you know by email before we fulfill your subscription. Certain prescriptions may incur additional charges to help us customise your glasses perfectly.
If you aren't sure this is you and would like further information, please contact our team.
Fit + Adjustments
Measuring Your Glasses
We can help you buy the same measurements as your current frame.
Some glasses frames have information printed on them about various frame measurements. You may be able to find these printed on the inside of the arms or on the back of the bridge inside the nose piece.
If you can't find the measurements on your glasses, don't worry! We can help you measure your current pair to get the right fit on your new pair.
The first number we will look for will always be part of a sequence of 3, representing (1) eye, (2) bridge, (3) arms.
- The eye is the lens diameter, or the length of the lens at its widest point, measured in millimetres (mm).
- The bridge width is the distance between your two lenses, or the part that fits on your nose. This number is very important to ensure your glasses fit your face well.
- The arms correspond to the length of your glasses arms (the part of the glasses which hook around your ears).
We have measurements for all models available on our website which can help you best choose new frames.
We highly recommend comparing the measurements of your current frames to get an idea of how your new pair will fit you. Contact our Customer Happiness team if you have any questions.
Measuring Yourself For Frames
Measuring yourself for a pair of frames is easy and all you need is a ruler!
- Stand in front of a mirror and hold the ruler in line with your temple.
- Measure the distance between your temples in inches.
- Multiply the measured value by 25.4 to convert from inches to cms (no need to multiply if you have measured in cms already).
Once you have measured your face, you can calculate the total frame width of the glasses you want. This will be the sum of both lens widths plus the bridge width. The frame size can vary +/- 3mm from your measurement.

Adjustments
Adjustments for glasses are fairly simple to make. Most opticians will offer free adjustments. If you require adjustments for your Greenwich Social Club order and your optician asks for a fee, we will cover the cost up to £20 if you send our Customer Happiness team your order number and a copy of your receipt.
We are working to bring optician partnerships in the UK that will help us offer you premium post-purchase care. Please stay tuned!
Care
Cleaning Your Lenses
To keep your glasses in their best shape, we recommend storing your glasses in your Greenwich Social Club case whenever you're not wearing them. All of our orders come with a complimentary optical cloth.
How to clean your lenses:
- Wash your hands with soap and rinse your glasses under lukewarm tap water.
- Gently dry and wipe down glasses with your complimentary optical cloth.
Care For Your Pair
Our favourite tips for caring for your new pair of glasses.
- Take them off with both hands - using one hand to remove your glasses can cause them to loosen over time and become crooked. Simply use two hands to remove your gasses from your temple, avoiding any un-necessary stretching.
- Use your hard case to store your glasses when you can, always facing upwards to avoid any scratching. Best practice is to use the case that came with your frames!
- Avoid wearing your glasses on the top of your head. This can stretch the arms of your frame and make them loose on your face.
- Opening and closing your glasses can cause your glasses screws to become loose over time or slip off your face.
- Keep your glasses and lenses clean as part of your daily routine. Cleaning your lenses incorrectly can cause scratching and damaging to your glasses' coating.
Our guide to face shapes
Considering your face shape and balancing your features will help you find the perfect pair of frames. Here's our guide to help you figure out what face shape you are and what frame styles will suit you best.

Oval
Lucky you - oval faces suit almost any frame. You may opt for frames that are slightly wider than the broadest part of your face to help maintain balance.
Bolder, oversized or rectangular frames will make you look more assertive, while narrower and oval or round frames will conversely soften your features.
